There is something wonderfully rich about this combination of deep plum velvet and a meadow full of delicately embroidered flowers. A hare bounds through the centre of the scene, but for me it is the extraordinary floral embroidery surrounding him that really makes this bag special.

No two flowers seem to have been treated in quite the same way. Tall stems, tiny buds and open blooms spread across the velvet in soft shades of cream, pink, lilac and green, with the stitching changing direction and technique from one flower to the next. Some petals radiate outwards, others are built from tiny overlapping stitches, while slender stems weave their way between them. Look closely and you begin to appreciate just how much detail has gone into creating the impression of a wildflower meadow rather than simply repeating the same floral motif.

Across the centre bounds a pale hare, appliquéd in a contrasting natural, hessian-like fabric. Its deliberately rustic texture sits in marked contrast to the softness and sheen of the velvet, giving the design an earthier element amongst all those beautifully worked flowers.

And the colour is glorious. The rich plum silk velvet has a luxurious depth that seems to intensify under the light, providing a sumptuous backdrop for the softer flowers. A contrasting dark green zip introduces another botanical note, while inside there's a final surprise: a rich magenta silky lining with a subtle metallic sheen.
