Sometimes a familiar little bird needs very little introduction. Against soft olive green velvet, the flash of a bright red breast immediately reveals one of Britain's most recognisable and much-loved garden visitors.

The robin is created from an interesting mixture of fabrics rather than embroidery alone. Rich red and dark brown velvet form the breast and back, while a panel of traditional herringbone gives the body a surprisingly convincing feathered texture. Fine embroidered details complete the bird, perched simply on a slender branch with just a scattering of green leaves beneath.

There's less decoration here than on some of our other velvet purses, but that simplicity allows the robin to remain very much the focus. The muted olive green is an especially good backdrop, giving the purse a practical, countryside feel while making that distinctive red breast stand out all the more.
