In February 2015, just weeks after Sassy Spirit was born, I travelled to my very first trade show to buy stock for the new business. I arrived cold, nervous and filled with excited anxiety, having absolutely no idea what to expect.

As I stepped into the exhibition hall for the first time, one stand stopped me in my tracks. Before me was an explosion of colour — as though fireworks and summer had collided to create the most beautiful display of handmade Madagascan baskets I had ever seen.

That moment began a love affair with artisan raffia baskets that has remained at the heart of Sassy Spirit ever since.

Handwoven in Madagascar using traditional techniques passed down through generations, each basket carries its own character, colour and individuality. No two are ever completely identical, and that is exactly where their beauty lies.

Over the years I have carefully curated collections that celebrate colour, craftsmanship and effortless summer style — from vibrant market baskets and raffia shoppers to artisan handbags designed to bring joy to everyday dressing.

These are more than just bags. They are pieces of craftsmanship with a story woven into every strand.
